Hi Nick, How are you? I’m having so much fun here at English Camp. It’s a pity you can’t join us. It’s my third day here and I wish the camp would last a month!!! On the first day, we put up the tents. They held a tent competition, and although we tried our best, our team was only the runner-up. Guess what? I met Nam, our classmate, but we couldn’t talk much because he was in another team. Before lunch we played some team building games. It was exciting! In the afternoon we went fishing. Hung, a student from Luna School, is a really good angler. He caught ten fish while I caught none. However, we let them all go. The second day, when we had a cooking competition, was also awesome. We had to draw lots to choose the dish we would cook. Hung did ours and we were asked to make sushi. Hung and I didn’t know how to make it, but lucky us – we had Chie in our team! She’s a student who comes from Tokyo and has lots of experience making sushi. Our sushi won the first prize! It’s great that Chie taught us how to make this healthy dish. Today there’s an English speaking contest on how to learn English successfully for non-native English speaking students. Hung’s giving a presentation on his top tips for learning English. Chào Nick, Minh đang rất vui tại English Camp. Rất tiếc là bạn đã không tham gia cùng chúng minh. Hôm nay đã là ngày thứ 3 ở đây, mình ước gì nó kéo dài 1 tháng. Ngày đầu tiên bọn mình dựng lều. Họ đã tổ chức cuộc thi dựng lều. Mặc dù nhóm mình đã cố gắng hết sức nhưng vẫn chỉ về hạng hai. Đoán xem chuyện gì xảy ra nào? Minh đã gặp Nam bạn học cùng lớp nhưng chúng mình không thể nói chuyện nhiều vì bạn ấy thuộc nhóm khác. Trước bữa trưa bọn mình đã tham gia trò chơi xây dựng tình đồng đội. Rất thú vị. Buổi chiều chúng mình đi câu cá. Hùng một học sinh trường Luna là một người câu cá thật sự giỏi. Bạn ấy đã bắt 10 con các trong khi mình không bắt được con nào. Tuy nhiên sau đó bọn mình đã thả toàn bộ số cá. Ngày thứ hai, chúng mình thi nấu ăn cũng rất tuyệt. Chúng mình đã rút thăm để chọn ra món ăn mà bọn mình có thể nấu. Hùng đã đại diện lên rút và bọn mình làm sushi. Hùng và mình không biết cách làm nhưng chúng mình rất may mắn vì đã có Chie trong nhóm. Bạn ấy là một học sinh đến từ Tokyo và có nhiều kinh nghiệm làm món sushi. Món sushi của bọn mình đã giành được giải nhất. Thật tuyệt khi Chie đã dạy bọn mình cách làm món ăn bổ dưỡng này. Hôm nay có cuộc thi nói tiếng Anh về đề tài cách học tiếng Anh hiệu quả cho những học sinh không phải là người bản xứ. Hùng sẽ thuyết trình về những bí quyết học tiếng Anh của mình. Bây giờ mình phải đi rồi, Chie và Hùng đang gọi. Gặp bạn lần tới nhé.

My tips to learn English well are not complicated. Firstly, I usually read stories and books in English. Reading them helps me widen my vocabulary and understand the context where words are used. This way I can remember vocabulary longer and know how to use the words correctly. Secondly, to practise English grammar, I do lots of exercises from different grammar books. I find Grammar in Use and Active Grammar useful because they explain grammar thoroughly, and provide learners with various types of exercise. Thirdly, I take every opportunity to speak and write English because these are my weak points, ve joined an international project which connects students from all over the world. I’ve made friends with four students from the USA, Australia, France, and Egypt. We write each other emails and chat on Skype. That way I can not only improve my English skills but also enrich my knowledge of different cultures. My !ast tip is to be self-confident. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes in the process of learning. In class, you should take part in the activities actively. If there are any things you don’t understand, ask your teacher and classmates for help. These tips have helped me to become a successful English learner.

Mẹo học tiếng Anh giỏi không phức tạp. Thứ nhất, tôi thường đọc truyện và sách bằng tiếng Anh. Đọc chúng sẽ giúp tôi mở rộng vốn từ vựng của tôi và hiểu được bối cảnh sử dụng từ ngữ. Here are some of my tips for learning English well. For me, the best way has always been watching films, cartoons, TV shows and certain TV channels like BBC or Sky news. When I was little, I watched Cartoon Network and despite I didn't understood a word, I kept watching and now I see that it was a good thing to do. About the films, in Việt Nam none of the films are translated, we have subtitles instead. That is a very good thing due to the fact that when you are younger you can associate the words said do the words on the subtitles (I always learned some new words!) and know I challenge myself by only listening to what they say and not read the subtitles. The second good way to learn English is writing several times the new words we learn, for instance, when I learned the colours or the numbers or even the name of our clothes, the homework was to write each new word five or ten times! This definitely helped me a lot!

A third good way to learn and practise our English is talking with our friends or teacher in class! This way we can practise new vocabulary and at the same time we learn with the mistakes that we might say during our speech. And at the end we always say "I could have said that in a different and better way!" The next advice is to read more, not only books but newspapers and magazines as well! There is so much good and new vocabulary in a book that we have no idea! That's why I try to read in English at every opportunity that I have! Even if I don't understand the meaning of that word, I can understand the meaning of the sentence and by that I can try and guess what that word really means! Last but not the least, I would recommend all people learning English to go to English speaking countries, to try to have a conversation with native speakers or even listen to them speak! Go shopping, go to the café, go to dinner, to a movie or even the theatre and you will see that this is for sure the best way to really learn English! You also will have the chance to discover a new culture and visit new places that you might not ever forget.
