Ladies and gentlemen! Today, I would like to tell you about Stephen Hawking, one of the most prominent scientists in the twenty-first century. Stephen Hawking was born into a highly educated family in Oxford, England on January 8, 1942. Both of his parents had attended Oxford University and his father, Frank, was a medical researcher. When he was about 16 years old, Stephen and his friends created a computer out of old clock parts, telephone switchboards and other recycled items. Because of his interest in maths and science, his friends gave him a nickname, 'Einstein'! At the age of 17, he went to Oxford University to study physics and chemistry. After graduating from Oxford, he went to Cambridge University to further his studies in cosmology (the science of the origin of the universe). Unfortunately, when he was 21, Stephen was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). He then slowly lost his ability to walk and speak, and he had to rely on a wheelchair.

The doctors also told that he only had two years to live. In 1985, Stephen got really sick and became unable to speak. Eventually, he was able to use a special machine, which allowed him to talk by transforming his cheek muscle movements into speeches. Despite his disabilities, Stephen had a lot of experiments and made many outstanding contributions to the scientific world. He also developed theories about how the world began and furthered our understanding of black holes, stars and the universe. In March, 2018 he passed away at the age of 76. However, he is still remembered as an inspiring person who had an incredible determination and overcame his illness in positive ways. That is the end of my presentation. If you have any questions or want to know more about Stephen Hawking, please feel free to ask me. Thank you for your listening!
