Usage: Give essential information to define or identify the person or thing we are talking about
Example: A clown is someone who makes you laugh
Notes:
- “Who, whom, which” can be replaced by “that”
Ex: The hotel which/that we stayed in wasn't bad.
- The "relative pronoun" can be omitted (ø) when it is the object of the clause.
Ex: The girl (whom) he loves is very beautiful.
Usage:
- tells us more about someone or something, but it does not help us to identify them or it.
- separated from the rest of the sentences by commas.
Example: I’ve just met Susan, whose husband is my friend.
Washington D.C which is located on the East Coast of the United States has many interesting and historical places to visit. Brasilia which is located on the Granada River became the capital of Brazil in 1960. Mexico City which has a population of nearly 20,000,000 is the largest metropolitan area in the world.
