I can’t be sure, but it looks like some kind of team meeting or maybe a business discussion. It looks to me like they’re having a brainstorming session, as everyone seems engaged and focused. There’s a sort of formal atmosphere, and they’re most likely discussing a project or presenting ideas. I’d say that the person standing is leading the discussion or explaining something important to the group.

It looks to me like a job interview of some kind. I’d say that the woman is the candidate, and the man is reviewing her résumé. There’s a sort of professional setting, with the woman explaining her qualifications or experience. They’re most likely talking about her suitability for the role, or something like that. The atmosphere seems serious but also friendly.

Exercise 6. SPEAKING Work in pairs. Find other similarities and differences between the photos in exercise 1. Use the phrases in exercise 5 to talk about them.
Both photos show a job interview setting. In both photos, you can see candidates being interviewed by a panel. The common theme in the photos is the formal evaluation of potential employees. The main difference between the photos is the atmosphere and the number of interviewers. In the first photo, the interview seems more formal, with a larger panel of five people sitting at a conference table, whereas in the second photo, the setting appears more casual, with only two interviewers and a cozier environment. Unlike the first photo, the second photo shows a more relaxed candidate who is smiling and gesturing confidently, making the interview seem more conversational. In the first photo, the candidate looks slightly more serious and perhaps a bit nervous, possibly due to the more formal setting and the number of interviewers.
